Pediatric orthopedics is a specialty dedicated to addressing the full spectrum of injuries and conditions that affect children’s musculoskeletal system—their bones, joints, growth plates, ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.
At North Country Orthopaedic Group, our orthopedic specialists have advanced training and expertise to evaluate and treat musculoskeletal problems in children. Our orthopedic specialists are fully cognizant of the anatomical, behavioral, and physiological differences between adults and children—unlike adults, children are still growing and developing and cannot always articulate their symptoms. Our providers are adept at communicating with children in a way that makes them calm and comfortable during their treatment.

Common Pediatric Orthopedic Conditions We Treat
At North Country Orthopaedic Group, we see children of all ages—from newborns to adolescents— with musculoskeletal problems, such as:
- Congenital musculoskeletal defects (e.g., congenital hip dislocation, clubfoot, scoliosis, and limb length differences)
- Broken bones (Fractures)
- Growth plate problems (e.g., Osgood-Schlatter disease, etc.)
- Bone or joint infections
- Gait abnormalities (e.g., foot drop, limping, and toe-walking)
- Sports injuries (e.g., torn ligaments, sprains, and strains)
- Traumatic injuries (from falls or collisions)
What to Expect at Your Child’s Appointment
During your child’s appointment with us, our orthopedic specialist will review your child’s full medical history (including family history). They will then ask questions about your child’s symptoms. Our orthopedic specialist will then perform a comprehensive evaluation—which includes a physical examination of your child and some diagnostic tests, such as MRI and/or X-ray—to pinpoint the cause of your child’s symptoms.
Once our orthopedic specialist confirms a diagnosis, they’ll discuss the treatment options with you and devise an appropriate plan. Our orthopedic specialist will usually start with conservative interventions, such as braces, splints, and physical therapy. However, if they determine that surgery is the only recourse, our orthopedic specialists have performed numerous successful minimally invasive procedures on children, so you can rest assured that your child is in very good hands! We will work closely with you to ensure your child will have a successful recovery.
